Bîrûn. Seminars of Ottoman music
Director: Kudsi Erguner
Assistant: Giovanni De Zorzi
Venice, 16-22 April 2012
The seminar addresses professional or semi-professional musicians specialized in Ottoman classical music, or wishing to deepen their knowledge of the genre. The aim is to form an Ensemble vocal/instrumental or purely instrumental (hanende o sazende), depending from the selected musicians, that will focus on some particular aspect of the Ottoman classical music (repertoires, composers, manuscripts) selected by M.o Kudsi Erguner and Giovanni De Zorzi. The theme for 2012 is “Composers at the Ottoman court” and will focus on
works by composers from the different ethnies and religions of Constantinople.
Six scholarships are available. They cover enrolment fees, lodging, lunches (dinner excluded) and travel (economy fare up to 400 Euros).
To apply for selection, participants must send the following material to the Seminar’s Secretariat by February 1, 2012:
